Fostering Growth through Sustainable Agriculture and Nutrition

BIVAC is a registered female-owned, medium-sized nutrition-focused agro-company located in Arusha, Tanzania. The business' special focus on growing and consuming biofortified food products emerged from the bravery of Beatrice, a single mother of two children who suffered from severe “hidden hunger” – malnutrition. This struggle became the catalyst behind Beatrice founding the business that grew into BIVAC Company Limited.

The company focuses on producing nutritious food products sourced from locally cultivated, biofortified beans and maize crops. Currently, BIVAC sources more than 75% of its beans and maize directly from Smallholder Farmers (SHFs), with the remainder procured through middlemen.

A key opportunity for BIVAC is the strong trust it has built with a rich base of 22,000 SHFs, who are willing to move forward with the company in investing in high-nutrition biofortified beans and maize.

Our Projects & Activities

BIVAC engages in community activities including extension services to smallholder farmers, contract farming, supplying agro products

Beans and Maize Seeds for Smallholder Farmers

We partnered with HARVEST PLUS, CIAT, TARI, and MERU Agro Seed Company to provide a common bean and maize seeds program in Arusha. This project aimed at supporting small-holder farmers to access the rich, Iron and Zinc bean seeds and pro-vitamin A maize seeds.

Pulses for Inclusive Growth

We partner with SEIDA and AMDT to provide refresher training to about 100 youth and women on common bean grain value addition skills and product marketing in the Manyara region particularly Babati, Mbulu DC and Town council, Simanjiro, and Hanang’.

School Feeding Enhancement

We partner with GAIN and TARI to provide nutritious meals to the children in schools. The program aims to boost children's health and reduce the number of children suffering from malnutrition. The project was undertaken in the Arusha and Kilimanjaro regions both for Primary and Secondary schools.

Community Engagement

We view the community and suppliers as key stakeholders and aim to empower them educationally, economically, and socially. Through contract farming with 22,000 farmers, we help improve livelihoods, support maternal and child health initiatives, and advocate for better nutrition and education for families.

Contract Farming

BIVAC will strive in agriculture guidance and training by conducting professional Training seminars (agronomy) for local farmers and creating a training concept to secure a long-term steady increase in production. BIVAC Works with 108 farmers under contract farming near Arusha to produce Maize grains and Common beans.

Research & Development

Focusing on innovation in sustainable agriculture and nutrition. We invest in cutting-edge technologies to improve crop yields, enhance food quality, and develop micronutrient-rich products. By advancing eco-friendly practices, we aim to drive agricultural growth and address malnutrition challenges globally.

Our sustainability plan is designed to promote ecological balance, enhance food security, and foster economic growth while ensuring that our operations remain environmentally friendly and socially responsible.

Empowering Local Farmers

We collaborate with local farmers, providing them with the necessary resources and training to implement sustainable agricultural practices that enhance productivity while preserving the environment.

Increase of Production and Distribution

Currently, BIVAC can produce 50 tons of flour meals per year. We hope that by 2025 we will be able to produce more than 200 tons per year. Our products will be available in many places on time and at an affordable price that everyone will be able to buy and use.

Promotions and Marketing

BIVAC creates brand awareness and initiates & encourages consumer interactions through social media(WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, exhibitions, radios, School visits, and Market lobbying and advocacy.

Waste Reduction Initiatives

Our commitment to minimizing waste includes implementing recycling programs and utilizing biodegradable packaging to reduce our environmental footprint.
